BIP GraphiMotion Fusion – In-Person Component

On May 26 we welcomed the participants BIP. This programme combined theory and practice in the areas of design, graphic production, and audiovisual media while fostering interdisciplinary and multicultural collaboration. The opening session was attended by Célio Gonçalo Marques, the Pro-President of IPT.

On May 26 the students had the opportunity to visit the Graphic Arts Laboratory at the IPT and the Tomar Centre for Photography Studies. In addition to the exhibitions, the students had direct contact with the work carried out at this important centre, whose mission involves the study and research of photographic culture.

On May 27, the students visited the emblematic Convent of Christ in Tomar. The visit was led by researcher Mafalda Nascimento and provided a deep dive into the historical, architectural and symbolic richness of this World Heritage monument. Students also participated in the workshop ‘Postcard Design’, led by Professor Ana do Carmo. They created proposals for postcards illustrating their experience of the city of Tomar.

On May 28, students visited M2 Artes Gráficas, in Prior Velho (Loures). The participants had the opportunity to see behind the scenes of graphic production, from pre-press to finishing, and understand how ideas take shape on paper. The visit was guided by José Martins, who shared technical knowledge and real-world experiences. Afterwards students explored the permanent exhibition at MUDE in Lisbon. Among iconic pieces of graphic, industrial and fashion design, the participants immersed themselves in a creative universe full of references, ideas, and inspirations.

On May 29th, students took part in a workshop led by Professor Júlio Silva, focused on exploring digital editing and animation software. During the session, the participants created animated content from the postcards they had previously developed. These visual elements were integrated into an augmented reality experience, accessible via a QR Code printed on the postcard itself. By scanning the code with a mobile device, anyone can view an animated message in augmented reality, turning the postcard into an interactive and innovative means of communication. Later that day students took part in a workshop with Professor Miguel Sanches, dedicated to offset printing, deepening their knowledge of the production process that began with the creation of their illustrated postcards. During the session, participants followed all the stages of printing - from the preparation of files and materials to the final print - and had direct contact with the technical challenges and demands of this conventional printing method.

On May 30, the closing ceremony of BIP took place, an initiative that brought together students and teachers from various European institutions at IPT. Throughout the day, the participants completed the projects developed during the week, toured the institution's photography labs, collected the postcards created as part of the program, and received their certificates of participation. This activity represented a valuable opportunity for collaborative learning, promoting internationalization, creativity, and the exchange of good teaching practices. Congratulations to everyone involved for their commitment and dedication throughout this week of intense and enriching work.
