The Polytechnic University of Tomar is organising the BIP 'Designing a University for All' event, which will take place on our campus in Tomar, Portugal, from 22 to 26 June 2026.
While access to higher education is a right, there are still many barriers for people with disabilities, whether they are physical, pedagogical, technological or attitudinal. Discussing accessibility in universities is essential to building a more inclusive society that offers real opportunities to all.
In this regard, the BIP's aims are:
- to develop practical skills in promoting accessibility.
- raise awareness of the multiple dimensions of accessibility;
- create institutional action plans
- to promote a cross-cutting culture of inclusion
- to produce immediately applicable results.
The BIP comprises practical workshops dedicated to the following dimensions:
1. Architectural accessibility and inclusive spaces
2. Pedagogical accessibility
3. Digital accessibility
4. Attitudinal accessibility and institutional culture
5. Policies, governance and institutional strategy
Staff and teachers interested in participating must contact the international relations office of their home university.
The online application form must be completed by nominated staff and teachers by 25 May here.
